Yahoo! Groups was an electronic mailing list and online discussion board, where users interacted in seperate groups, which could be private or open for anyone to join, and were often themed around shared interests or hobbies. Officially launched in 2001 after the aquisition of eGroups in 2000, it integrated eGroups and Yahoo! Clubs, and would grow to house over 5 million groups. From 2019-2020, Yahoo progressively shut down most features of the site and deleted the entirety of its archives -- wiping years of chat logs, images, and other data that had been uploaded to the platform since the mid-90s.
Several archiving teams -- most prominently ArchiveTeam.org (not associated with the Internet Archive) -- attempted to bulk archive Yahoo! Groups. Unfortunately, the information retrieved is incomplete (due to Verison blocking automated archiving efforts) and difficult to search.
Here are some images I retrieved in late 2019, sorted by group. Far from a complete archive, it's a snapshot of the interesting and noteworthy images I personally found and wanted to rescue before they were deleted from the internet.
Started by the owner of a geocities site of the same name (which is archived archived by the Wayback Machine as well as in an oocities mirror), the associated Yahoo! Group likely began around 2002.
To my knowledge, none of these pictures are currently hosted anywhere else on the web. If you own any of these pictures (or know who does) and want me to take it down or credit the original owner, I will gladly do so -- my email is netghostsarchive[at]gmail[dot]com.
